This restaurant looks impressive, and has a very impressive DTC location, but the food and service are just so-so and certainly don't justify the prices. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and 5-6 piece of sushi. The sushi was fine, nothing special, and the tuna roll was about the same, though shockingly I got the occasional "funky fish" bite. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty when I visited, service was quite slow. It took five minutes for my server to greet me and probably close to 20 minutes before my sushi came out. I lost track of how long it took to bring me my bill. Bottom line, Bara is ok, but there are a lot of better and more affordable options around town.

We eat there often. It's the best place we know of so far. Food is good. Service is good. Nothing out of this world but convenient.

My absolute favorite sushi restaurant in Denver! I go here about once a week. Always the freshest fish, the staff are so friendly, and they have a perfect sized and affordable lunch special.

My wife and I come here on a regular basis. Good food and friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere. The Thai food is good, but the sushi is our go-to choice. All the special rolls are excellent (the Red Dragon and Jade rolls are particular favorites). The best sushi place we've found in the area, hands down.

Excellent sushi! We really enjoyed this restaurant, the ambiance, the food, the wine, and the waiter! We had a very tasty avocado salad, edamame, and a veggie and shrimp tempura dish to get us started (all of which we really liked), along with some tasty Kim Crawford white wine (definitely a must). The sushi rolls we had were all pretty delicious and were made very quickly. If you are in the area and you like sushi, you should give this place a shot!

I eat here often, it's just around the corner from my office. I'd consider it one of my favorite go to spots. I typically though, only order a couple Sushi lunch specials out of the many options they have. Included in their regular menu are Bento Boxes and Thai dishes. I'd say get there either early around 11:30 or after 12:45 for lunch as they have seemed short staffed the last few times I've been in. I avoid their busiest time at noon anyway and usually eat at the sushi bar. The fish is fresh, the miso soup and salad are basic both accompany their sushi lunch specials. I've not tried the Thai but I've seen the portions for lunch and they are quite adequate for the price. On a recent lunch there with a coworker it was a bit pricey after ordering extra rolls and pieces but we were full and enjoyed everything we ordered. My two go to lunches are: Sushi Lunch Tuna, salmon, shrimp (2 pcs. each), w. a California roll Roll Lunch 1 California roll (4 pcs.), spicy tuna roll (6 pcs.) & a salmon hand roll (regular or spicy)cs. each), w. a California roll $13 I am looking forward to stopping in for dinner soon and reviewing the other menu items, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Bonus, they do have an extensive cocktail menu as well. This will be a great spot for meeting girlfriends one evening and then maybe catching some music on the terrace at Shanahan's. ;-) Enjoy!

We came on a Sunday night and place was dead. We got seated right away. I ordered the rainbow rolls and the shrimp tempura. When it came out the presentation was great. However my ginger and wasabi were both dry. Good thing I don't eat them anyways but brownish wasabi is pretty gross. The shrimp tempura tasted freezer burned. :/ As for my rainbow rolls well you can get better stuff at Safeway. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because my boyfriend ordered the Chicken Yaki Udon. I ended up eating half of them because they tasted good. Also our waiter was checked up on use every few mins and refreshing our beverages.

We went here with some friends last Sunday and overall place was great! We started with spicy edamame, spring rolls, a spicy tuna roll, and all were very good. We tried and array of rolls: 8000, Sunflower, and others and all were very, very good and fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone who is in the DTC area. And last but not least we had the mochi as that is mandatory for me and I loved the green tea at this location. Enjoy!

This place is fantastic! We tried it via Grubhub while staying in Colorado last week and were pleasantly surprised. Large sushi dinner, chicken katsu, miso soup, salad drink and dessert for $40 after delivery and tip. Very nice!

Kinda on a sushi thing so..didn't want to go with our business group next door restaurant. This looks interesting. Having a combo assortment at bar. Nice place here with pleasant service. All the usual sushi items and all very good. I would return.

Sushi took like 30 min and it was just OK even tho we were the only customers there for lunch. Also, the server was pretty rude. Eh

Recently visited this place for dinner with my BF. The restaurant was nicely decorated, trendy and relexing. Several seating options were available, bar, tables and booths. Our waitress was quick bringing us menus and water. the dinner price is a bit high comparing to other sushi/Thai restaurants in the area. The Pad Thai was $13, although the portion was quite large. I had Udon with Tempura which was very good. The sushi looked good too but quite pricy. I'd say the deal at Sushi Katsu II on Arapahoe is better. Overall this is a decent place for lunch or dinner.

Stopped in at Bara last night. We were in the area for a birthday celebration. So we thought we would try someplace new. We are very glad we did. The atmosphere is very cozy. Dimly lit with deep red walls. Intimate and romantic. Everyone was very friendly. Greetings everywhere and thank yous from everyone when we left. I started with the Snow Crab roll. It was great. Fresh and flavorful with a nice light sauce and some mango. I convinced my wife to give it a try. She does not each such things, but she did like this roll. My wife had the Pad Thai. It was one of the best Pad Thai's I have ever had. Lightly sweet with what I have come to know as the correct flavor. Many places try for a good Pad, this one is great. I finished her dish, so unfortunately she did not get to have it for lunch today. I guess I should be sorry about that, but it was really really good. I had the Garlic Shrimp. Not over sauced. The garlic flavor was spot on. Fresh stir fried vegetables cooked enough, but not so much that they lost their crunch. We have a favorite Thai place closer to us, but I know we will make the trip up to Bara from time to time.

In town on travels and wanted some sushi. Bara did not disappoint one bit. Server was professional, fast and courteous. The sushi plate presentations were beautiful. Definitely would return.

One of the best sushi places I have ever been to. My team manager took us here today for dinner, and boy it was good. Our waiter was super friendly and was too cool. I had tokyo sushi, edemambe, teriyaki chicken for dinner. And it was amazing. Gonna get back here for sure again and gonna ask for the same waiter to wait on us.. Cheers to the entire team of Bara sushi. U guys rock..

Meh. I have a friend who works in the tech center who recommended this place. I liked their spicy miso soup. The sushi was just okay. I would rather come here than Hapa though.

Great place! I've been there few times already. First time I went it was a miscommunication with a chef and my food wasn't prepared the way I want it. However the problem was solved properly. Customer appreciation is what makes any business successful.

I actually loved this place. We walked in and were seated immediately, and our waitress (I don't remember her name) was extremely attentive and helpful. She poured my S.O.'s sake for him every time and told him not to pour his own--I'm not sure if other places do that but I've personally never seen it before. The restaurant itself was very pretty--deep red and inviting. We ordered two of the specials, including something called "Fish on a Chip" and live scallops. The fish on a chip was a little weird but it was tasty, and had different colored caviar on each one which was a neat effect. The live scallop was beautiful--I've uploaded a picture of it in case anyone is curious. I was pleased with the plating here. We had some typical sushi like salmon, tuna, eel, etc, and then a few of their specialty rolls, including a few of the city named ones (was it Manhattan, New York, or Tokyo? I have no idea anymore.) For dessert we had the fried banana with ice cream which was very good. I was pretty pleased to find this place.

Good service! Good food. Pretty good prices. Atmosphere is great with old school music. Hip hop r n b from the 80-90's. Have the Vegas roll. Amazing.

  • Michelle S.

YUM! Probably our new area favorite for Sushi! Rolls were very good (melt in your mouth), service was quick and friendly, and prices pretty standard -- not cheap but not overly expensive -- definitely worth it for the quality. Atmosphere is very nice (other reviews cover it well). Spicy Miso soup is spicy -- which is a good thing. When you order something spicy, you want it spicy, right? Las Vegas Roll was DELISH. Fish on the Rainbow Roll was very fresh -- that's the melt in your mouth part. Spicy Kani Roll (pretty sure that was the name) had great flavor. And, you don't want to miss the fried banana for sure! Glad we saw this place on our way somewhere else -- we'll be back often!

the sushi was okay, I definitely had better. But the service was HORRIBLE. We wait an hour before our sushi came, and was only ordered three roles. They did come out and offer dessert, but since I don't eat dessert I said no and they did nothing else. I worked in a restaurant through college and I never tip below 20%, this was the first time. I couldn't leave more for a sushi dinner that took almost 2 hours with people coming and leaving who sat down after we ordered.

I already had reduced my expectations (you can't expect much from a restaurant that serves BOTH Thai and Japanese foods - two completely different cultures and cuisines) and still found the food to be "meh" and overpriced. Note the soba noodles were, in fact, ramen or some sort of egg/flour noodle. Soba is made of buckwheat and needs to be corrected on the menu. 2 1/2 stars because service was pleasant and efficient despite a busy lunch crowd. Decor was nice too, although I swear the hand soap in the bathroom had the texture and smell of green Palmolive dishwashing detergent.

OK, I promised myself that I was only going post to Yelp only if I had a positive review but I need to share what happened today when my fiance and Ii visited Bara Sushi for the first time. We did have a pleasant experience until when tried to use the LivingSocial voucher. The waitress (Lindsey) said that it was not valid for HH but I said since we order some full priced menu items, we should be able to use it. After she checked with the manager (Carrie - also the owner apparently), she returned with , "Ok, my manager said that she will accept the voucher." Then when the bill came, we were charged full price for even the HH items. When I addressed this with her, she acted like she told us that if they accepted the voucher, we would be charged full price for everything...which was NOT the case. She went back to towards the kitchen and disappeared (I'm guessing she did not want to admit to her mistake) then the manager and owner, Carrie came back and started to tell me that since we "insisted" on using the voucher, she redeemed it and charged us full prices. I stated firmly that I did NOT insist but simply asked about using it. She said there was nothing she could do. This is when my "Jersey" came out...I let her know that she has the option to get m voucher back or give me a credit for the amount of the voucher plus the HH prices on the items that were on HH. She continued to argue with me but I am not one to back down. She finally said that she would try to reach LS and walked away. When she returned, she said that LS returned the voucher to us. She gave no apologies for the incorrect information on the part of her and the waitress and for the inconvenience of us waiting there for another 20 mins for this whole thing to play out! I guess it is true that customer service is dying out... FYI, she may have been polite and calm, but F***U with a smile is still F***U!

Have been in for lunch a few times. Unfortunately there isn't a ton of competition in the area in terms of sushi for lunch. The Bento boxes are ok. Overpriced considering what you get. Was craving some Udon and tried both nabayaki and tempura udons. It's good for cold days, comes out boiling hot. The poached egg in the nabeyaki is good, but was hoping for some fish cake or other seafood. The seaweed does not have a good texture, really thick, grainy and fishy smelly. My biggest qualm is how slow they are. It's never super busy, yet you wait a long time for your food. Gotta speed it up in the Tech Center for us working people!

  • Sam P.

Slow as you know what and prices bordering on gouging DTC clientele. On top if it all, just a poorly trained staff (from waiter to sushi chefs that were unprepared/unfriendly)... Not worth the $50 lunch we had!

  • Michael H.

Monkey brains appetizer very nice. Tuna and salmon sushi reasonably good. Ultimate spider roll just ok, wondered about freshness of ingredients. Service was pleasant. $60 price tag (includes tip and 1 lemonade) for lunch was on the high side.

I guess when you say your from California it validates your sushi expertise. I live in Southern California which actually has marginally better sushi than Northern California The sushi at Bara Sushi + Grill is on par with SC, NoCal and Ginza business district of Tokyo. Seriously good! Great service too! Ask for the Jade Roll and super crisp eel.

This was our fifth visit for dinner using a $30 Groupon. We were seated at a large table near the sushi bar. We were given the usual 3 separate sushi menus. They must have gotten new light bulbs for the overhead lights because I could read the menu without using a flashlight and the light was shining down in the center of the table. I didn't need a flash to take the photos of my food. We ordered 2 of my favorite rolls, Blue Sky and D*T*C, and a roll we haven't tried before but is a "local favorite", the Belleview. The Blue Sky Roll came out first on a plate with wasabi and ginger. The flying fish eggs on the Blue Sky were exceptionally crunchy. I just really liked the triangular shape of the roll and the tempura flakes on top. The D*T*C Roll was a "local favorite". We ordered this roll on our very first visit and really liked it. It had smoked salmon and cream cheese with avocado and flying fish eggs on top. The Belleview Roll had shrimp tempura, mango, eel, avocado, and sweet potato crunch on top. The Belleview Roll was also a "local favorite". The shrimp tempura was crunchy. The sweet potato crunch was fine shreds of sweet potato. It was more chewy than crunchy. Tonight the rice was cooked perfectly. Last time the rice was mushy. Good rice really made a big difference in our sushi experience. They get their star back. I would order all 3 rolls again. We still want to try their Happy Hour. We will be back.

Barf. I'm from Seattle and have grown used to the mediocre sushi in Denver. This, however, was terrible. Next time I'm hungry for sushi I'll wrap SPAM in some old rice and walk away without this disappointment. I'll note that I had it delivered. It took an hour. I tipped the driver but he was very unfriendly. I can't blame him though, I suspect he just ate his shift meal.

Not our normal sushi spot but since it's so close we decided to give it a try. Sushi was fine, service was fine too. Nothing really blew me away. The rolls were average, everything tasted good. It's a good place to fall back on when I need a quick sushi fix or when I don't want to drive anywhere. Would definitely come back during happy hour or lunch to give it a try!

I have been here three times; once for dinner after purchasing a Groupon (and thus how I heard of Bara) and twice for lunch. While my Dinner experience was fine I greatly enjoyed my lunch experiences. For $12 you get miso soup and salad, a California roll, spicy tuna roll and choice of salmon or spicy salmon roll. The miso soup is good with seaweed and tofu. The salad is iceberg lettuce and carrots with choice of carrot or ginger dressing. If you ask they'll give you both. This makes a basic salad pretty delicious. The California roll is fine but a little heavy on the mayonnaise. It will never be my favorite roll. The spicy tuna roll has good spice and tasted very fresh. The spicy salmon hand roll is a unique addition to a lunch menu and wrapped well in the seaweed. The waiters/waitresses are polite and good about refilling water. I did order tea once and was not asked about a refill. No biggie

I regularly order from Bara Sushi & Thai and here's why: 1. The sushi is delicious and good quality, with a range of basic to speciality starters and rolls. 2. They effing deliver! That's right, they bring the sushi to me! I'd make delivery #1, but if the sushi wasn't good it wouldn't be worth it. Last night we doubled the usual order (because sharing is fun!) and was as impressed with their friendly service as always. Please see for yourself the beautiful quality of their work!

FOR SHAME, BARA!!! How could they do this? THIS USED TO BE THE BEST LUNCH BOX IN TOWN. They eliminated their AMAZING, WONDERFUL, PLENTIFUL options. You used to be able to choose something from three different categories...different rolls, different kinds of tempura, different entrees, etc. Well, I went back there today only to discover they have hacked their options to death. Now the only options are either a cucumber roll (which, let's face it, isn't really a roll) or veggie tempura with an entree. What?? When I asked the server (who was very nice and gracious) he politely replied "you get much more of your entree". I'm sorry - but I don't buy the lunch box to get a lot of something. I buy it to get smaller portions of a few things. I begrudgingly ordered...since I was already seated with my colleague. When the katsu came out, the chicken wasn't pounded nor sliced thinly. It was large chunks of chicken. And, there was a lot of it. Meh. Too much, honestly. Reminded me of the large portions at the drive-in plate lunch spots in Honolulu as a kid. This is not plate lunch, THIS IS BARA! I used to go to this place all the time for lunch, just for the lunch box. I will not be going back. So begins my search for my new favorite lunch box in town...

I love this place! The staff is very friendly and the food is really good and reasonably priced. They even bring out pineapple slices after the meal. The restaurant itself is very clean with a nice atmosphere for a romantic date night. The volcano roll and spider roll are my favorite. I highly recommend thIs place. They deliver too!

I love this place! I get their beef short ribs, green salad (yummy ginger dressing), and not very adventurous sushi (yellowtail, tuna, salmon, etc.). Very good food and excellent service. I've also had their shrimp terriyaki bento box for lunch which was tasty too and a good deal.

I hope the owner reads this and does something about his staff. We went tonight and wanted to sit at the sushi bar. Three seats were open but instead the host insisted that we sit at a table but then moved to a booth. Five to seven minutes passed, no drink orders. Then the host comes up and says "Did she come by and get your drink order?" We replied "No" so he took our order. Our waitress finally showed up and we ordered two salads, Nabeyaki udon and a TNT roll. The salads came out almost instantly as did the udon. We kept looking around for our waitress ten minutes at a time. Right around the half hour mark, I flagged down a hostess/waitress/bus girl. I requested for chili powder as well inquiring about my girlfriend's sushi. With a shy grin, she replied "I am new here and I am still in training." Ok, that's fine but can you find our waitress or at least our food? After another ten minutes or so, our waitress decides to show up and we told her to cancel the order for sushi and give us our check. She cancelled the order immediately and with energy. Something she lacked the whole night. She could've come back and checked on us to let us know the sushi will take longer! As we were leaving, we stopped by the host stand and requested to speak to a manager. No manager was available so I asked for the owner and they said the owner is not there either. I told them sushi should not take forty minutes to make and they made the same excuse: "Sorry, one of our sushi chefs did not show up tonight so that's why we are a bit slow." Again, another sheepish grin from a guy wearing a plaid sweater. The hostess/waitress/bus girl said "Oh wait, hold on, let me get you something" as the guy standing there finally apologized and said "I hope you guys come back." Seriously?!?! No manager on staff and you want us to come back too!? She handed us a business card as if that would do any good. This is seriously BULLSHIT! A girl was even celebrating her birthday tonight. I feel sorry cause it has been an hour and some change since we left the place and I bet they are going through the same crap we did. I won't even comment about the food because if anyone went through what we did, it ruined the night. We ended up going to Chipotle instead. Your place is called Bara Sushi and you can't even make sushi?!?!

A good sushi place...but not great. I am so sad because in my travels recently all the places I have been have been so/so and this place unfortunately is no different 1. The people who run this place the hosts, the waiter and the sushi makers are extraordinarily nice...all smiles and friendliness 2. The miso soup was awesome...got a cube of tofu in every bite. 3. The actually sushi menu was a little disappointing. My friend and I noticed more that more than half of all the sushi items had spicy tuna in them...I mean I am a fan of spicy tuna but not on every roll. 4. The rolls I did order were kind of bland even though supposedly spicy-so I had to order Sriracha for dipping. The fish was fresh but just nothing special...this pace could do so much better with just a few minor changes I was sad this place was not better as this was my last meal in Denver and I was actually excited to eat here as Urban Spoon ratings were higher than I would give it.

I came here with a Groupon and all things considered it was pretty decent. Not the best sushi or rolls, but good enough. The salmon sashimi was cut and prepared perfectly I have to say. They have a ton of specialty rolls, so make sure to check the paper menu, the hard menu and the specials. It's not a place I'd absolutely recommend but it's a calm atmosphere and it'd be good for a casual get together.

Best Sushi in all of Colorado. As a northern California girl, the only food I really missed was sushi until I found Bara! They have the freshest sashimi out there and, believe me, I've tried them all! Carrie at Bara makes them the utmost perfect place to order from if you work in or around the DTC. Carrie is amazing! She always knows my order and makes sure it is delivered in the quickest possible time!

I would rate this restaurant higher except for the lacking service. My experience didn't start out fantastic because I had to stand & wait to be even acknowledged & then seated for quite a while. Throughout the entire meal, all the waitresses & sushi chefs were very friendly, but the service was very slow. I saw several others standing at the door waiting long minutes to be seated as well & heard one customer ask at least 3 times for his to-go order because he had been waiting a long time for it. I was a little baffled by the slow service because despite it being a Saturday night, the place was not crowded or full & there seemed to be plenty of waiters & waitresses. Hmmm.... I sat at the sushi bar & started with miso soup. It's hard to go wrong with miso soup, and theirs was good. The Eve Hand Roll was delicious & different with freshwater eel, dynamite, cucumber, apple & cream cheese with a sweet soy sauce. The apple gave the roll a bit of sweetness, & I loved the crunch of the apple & cucumber contrasted with the smoothness of the cream cheese. My only complaint would be that the rolls were large & oddly shaped, making them difficult to eat, especially with chopsticks & especially for someone with a small mouth. :) The Fire Crunch Roll wasn't spicy at all but very good. It had "spicy" tuna, avocado, mango, cucumber topped with sauteed mushrooms & rock shrimp. Personally, I absolutely loved the earthy flavor the sauteed mushrooms added to the roll. Tonight, I couldn't leave without dessert. Because bananas make some of the best desserts, I chose the tempura banana & asked that the green tea ice cream be served separately on the side. I'm glad I requested that because the green tea ice cream was just ok. It was definitely a unique experience to taste it, but I wouldn't order it again. The tempura banana, on the other hand, was excellent, served warm with the delightfully crunchy tempura coating, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, & cookie sticks dipped in chocolate. While I enjoyed my food, I feel that I could find sushi that was just as good at a restaurant with better & faster service. To be honest, the only factor that might bring me back to this particular restaurant would be the location.

Not BAD. But not great either. It's the only Thai place that delivers in my area so that's really the only reason I would continue to eat here. The sushi rolls are pretty good. I'm SUPER picky about my sushi. I've definitely had better. The three noodle dishes I have tried all taste very similar and pretty bland. I end up adding sriracha and shoyu for more flavor. Nothing too great, especially for the price. Somehow my BF and I ended up spending $70 for delivery on just the two of us! I would definitely recommend Udom or Star Thai before this, but it's slightly better than Purple Ginger (who should be ashamed to even call their food Asian). Meh...

I loved my visit to Bara Sushi & Grill. I've had better Shrimp Tempura rolls but the food was still very good. I think the service I received made everything taste better too, LOL! Our waiter was very polite, helpful and according to my daughter...CUTE! We had the Monkey Brain appetizer which was delicious if you LOVE fresh avocado. In addition to the Shrimp Tempura Rolls, we had the Spicy Spider Roll (DELICIOUS!!!) & the Spicy Tuna Roll (Very fresh and yummy too). The bathroom was very Zen and very Clean! A must for any good restaurant. Again...I loved my visit to this place and will return again soon. Gotta get some more of that Monkey Brain!!!

Never again. In my 831 reviews on Yelp I don't recall ever wanting to give a business 0 stars but if I could Bara Sushi would be the winner. I could just write "Don't waste your time here" but I am going to share my experience (and also sending a letter to the manager/owner since the experience was the worst). I've been wanting to check out this place since I'm forever going to the Starbucks in this shopping center and my sister bought me a Groupon for Bara Sushi for my birthday so perfect chance to finally go! We went here last night and walking in, it wasn't what I expected. I thought it was going to be dark, trendy and loud but it was on the smaller side with warm inviting colors and an intimate atmosphere-I dig it! When we walked in we were greeted by a man in his mid-twenties and we asked to sit at the sushi bar. His response? No. Hold up, what? There were three seats available at the sushi bar yet we can't sit there and without explanation? Whats up with that? Instead, he sat us at a little table by the window and when we got there it felt cooler since it was next to said window so I asked if we could sit at a booth and he looked annoyed that I asked. He said he had to go check and we just hung out there then he said it was ok so we went over there. Hang on, this is where the real fun begins. We sat down around 6:35pm (there was a clock on the wall by the door) and our server didn't come over for 15 minutes. The host stopped over and asked us if she had gotten our drink order and we told him no, so he brought them over and the iced tea was almost clear as water. We had no clue who our server was because she didn't even stop over to say "Be right with you" or anything to that effect and it seemed like a total s***show with tables waiting for their bills, drinks, etc. She finally came over, wasn't personable, got our orders (at this point it was 6:50p) and once again darted off. We ordered two house salads, nabeyaki and the TnT roll and seeing that it wasn't a large order didn't think there would be any issues. Our salads came out right away and the nabeyaki soon followed but my sushi roll never showed up. At first I thought it was timing thing with hot and cold dishes but nope--the sushi never showed up. No words from our server to let us know it will be coming out or a check back to see how my boyfriend's nabeyaki was. I found out it was quite tasty because he ended up sharing with me since my food was taking forever. So we flagged down yet another girl working there and she said she would check and shocker---she never followed up with us! She passed us by and I asked for an update and her response was "I'm new and in training". Yeah, that's not an answer or explanation. At this point it was 7:30p and we finally found our server and told her we never got the sushi roll and she just used the excuse that there were only two sushi chefs working tonight. I have my own eyes and could clearly see that however when "sushi" is in the name of your restaurant, that's really not an excuse. We told her to cancel the order at this point and she seemed happy about that and got our check to us right away---weird how fast the service was when she was bringing us our bill. We paid, left and when we were walking out the new girl and another man were standing at the host stand. We asked if there was a manager or owner we could speak with and they said no. We told them how horrible everything was and again the excuses "I'm new" "We only have two sushi chefs tonight" came out and they handed us a card with the business name but no owner name and said "Come back soon". I don't know what they were smoking but did they not hear what I said? I can say with complete confidence this is the worst restaurant experience in Denver. Do not waste your time or money here!

I can't believe that it has taken me THIS LONG to review this great place!!! Well, now I am going to have to make this well worth it! First of all - CARRIE IS AWESOME!!! Typically, we (as in my office) would place delivery orders at least once a week with Bara and they are ALWAYS spot on with our order. But let's talk about the food (oh, did I mention that Carrie is awesome???). I'm not your uber snobby, know-it-all sushi connoisseur, however, being in Colorado now for a year after pretty much living my whole life in San Francisco, the expectation is a bit high. Man, talk about QUALITY!!! Their sashimi is always fresh and tastes amazing! The rolls are definitely up there in terms of taste and quantity too. I highly recommend the Kirin Roll and the Mango Roll. And do yourself a favor too and sample their amazing selection of Sashimi - Hamachi and Maguro??? MMMM! Yum. Not in the mood for rolls? Shrimp Tempura, Gyoza, and an order of rice is all you need to get you going for the day. Whether you dine in, order out, or get the food delivered, you can not go wrong with this place. And yes, Carrie is awesome!

I had never heard of this restaurant until I saw a Groupon for it and bought it. I was completely amazed by the service and food! It is very reasonably priced as well for a sushi restaurant so that was fantastic! We tried pretty much all of the specials they had and everything was amazing. Our server was very helpful but not pushy and had the just right about of personality to make the dinner fun! For anyone looking for a nice dinner in the DTC area, I would suggest here!

I'm on a new quest to find good happy hour spots near my new work location in north DTC. At Bara Sushi happy hour runs from 5pm to 9pm Monday through Friday. With $3.25 nigiri (2 pieces) and $3.75 rolls (5-6 pieces each), you can eat a bunch of sushi on a small budget. The traffic from Orchard to Belleview around 5:15 was not fun, even taking side streets. I was happy to get there in time for the tail end of HH. Bara Sushi is located in a strip mall, so there's plenty of convenient parking. The atmosphere was quiet. There weren't many people there on Thursday night. The service was reasonable. Our waiter managed to squeeze in a drink and food order before HH finished up. My friend and I each had a glass of wine on the HH menu (simply red or white). We shared Monkey Brain Returns (a tuna concoction), nigiri and roll sushi. For dessert we shared Green Tea Tempura Ice Cream. Overall, the food wasn't remarkably good or bad. There was nothing that made this restaurant stand out as a special sushi experience. My search for the right combo of happy hour atmosphere, service, food and drink in the DTC continues!

I will definitely be back - The service was amazing, the fish was fresh, the ambiance is pleasant, the pricing is decent / average, the rolls were fun/tasty. My server gave me a quick lesson on sake selection, which was much needed. I'll need to try the sashimi next time to see if I can change this to 5 stars.

The bottom line is that this place is overpriced and the taste factor is quite average. Being a big fan of sushi, I was lured in by all the positive reviews. Perhaps this is the result of coming in with high expectations. Regardless, I know great food when I taste it, and Bara does not fit the bill. Literally. Our order: Monkey Brains ($8): This was one of the main disappointments of the meal. It's half of an avocado that is fried with crabmeat and various sauces. It was decent, but it definitely does not warrant all these rave reviews. It was quite bland, actually. New Volcano Roll ($12 - 6 pieces): It's a California Roll slathered with dynamite sauce over it. This roll was my favorite of the bunch, but I was quite unimpressed by how wimpy the size of the pieces are. And at $2 per piece?!?! Gotta keep the caboose moving. Red Dragon Roll ($12 - 8 pieces): It's a tempura-fried lobster salad with avocado, eel, and some crunchy pieces on top. The taste was quite average, but I still couldn't get over the puny size of each sushi piece. Criminal. Spicy Tuna Roll ($5 -- 5 pieces): Mulched. This is a negative for some, but not for me. Combo Platter w/ Steak Calamari and Tuna Sashimi ($17.95) -- Per hubby, the steak calamari and accompanying sauce was quite bland. The tempura veggies as a side dish were a very nice surprise. The tuna sashimi was on-point tastewise; however, the slices were on the thin side. Kirin Beer ($7.50 -- 24 oz) -- Great, but of course, they don't get credit for this. Bara is just not worth it for the money, folks. As I've mentioned, I couldn't get over how small their rolls are. Plus, the taste did not justify their high prices. There is no way I'll be back.

Lunch was great. Grab a bento box and I think you'll be glad you did. I got the sashimi lunch special and loved it. The food is fresh and tasty. I don't think it is the best sushi in Denver, but it is very good. We've come here for dinner with the family as well, and especially for kids the bento boxes are great.

I purchased a Groupon to check this restaurant out, and I am very glad that I did. We ordered 4 rolls from their "Special Rolls" section. 3 of them were OUT OF THIS WORLD. While the service was slow, but friendly, the food will definitely make me a return customer on a special occasion. Though I am disappointed that the food is so expensive, and wish it were more reasonably priced at $12 a roll I would highly recommend Bara for a night out.

I work in the Tech Center and we came here for lunch. This place is really small so I'm glad we came in a little after 11 cause it filled up right after we got here. I have to say the price for rolls was great, the sushi tasted amazing and the service was really fast. We will be coming back here again and again.

We tried Bara tonight for the first time because we had a Groupon. After reading other Yelp reviews, I was concerned about the service and the time to wait for food. But both the service and wait time were great! We got there at about 6 pm on a Saturday night but were seated right away, and our server was very friendly. We tried the veggie tempura because another Yelper recommended it, and it was just as good as she said it would be! And the rolls, oh the rolls. So good. I definitely recommend the Crouching Tiger (was my favorite, though the other ones we got were also really good). Towards the end of our meal, we did notice that some of the other customers who were seated after us had been waiting a little long for their food, but the server apologized to them. She said they were short a sushi chef that night, and to make up for it, she offered them complimentary miso soup and edamame. So guess we came at the right time since our food came quickly . . or maybe we came at the wrong time and didn't get the complimentary soup ;) Overall, I was impressed. I think the Groupon voucher succeeded in getting a repeat customer.

It is hard to write a review of a place you have gone to for a long time, especially when it has gone down the tubes. We went another tie under the new management (3 weeks ago) and the price was higher than we remembered. But we thought it was us mis calculating. We went again tonight and spent almost $150 on what we knew cost us $75 or so before. The staff is the same and seemed to echo the sorrow of the sticker shock of the new 1/3 higher bill. The portions are smaller and the price is 1/3 higher. Sorry, but there are many other places that offer sub par portions at a much better price. At 6:45pm tonight we were the ONLY ones in the place. That tells you what is happening. I am a small business owner and I hate to write this but the owners need to get a grip on reality. You made extra $$ on us tonight. But you will not int he future. Avoid this place unless you want to pay more for smaller portions. Sincerely Tim W.

This place is delicious! Fresh fish. Came here for a casual work dinner (sometimes we go to some pretty fancy high end places in Chicago). Quality fish. Had several different rolls and sashimi. Not a "hip" atmosphere, but god casual atmosphere.

This place was slow!!!! It took forever to get our sushi out. So, to make up for the wait they offered us edamame, but to my chagrin, that took forever to come out too. The waitress came by and asked us if we were doing ok, and then saw we didn't get the edamame and it came out...5 min later!! The sushi was something to be desired, but priced accordingly so on most rolls, and average on other rolls. I got the belleview, and I feel that it could have tasted better, but there wasn't very much "filling," it was kind of overloaded with rice, and small. There are other better places, but it seems like it's getting harder to find a good, pleasant sushi joint.

What I liked about the place was the friendliness of the staff. Even the customers are friendly! On a Saturday evening, it as very crowded but we didn't have to wait long. I was impressed by the descriptions of the sushi rolls and while they don't proclaim to have 101 rolls, the rolls they did create were beautifully presented and delicious. What I wasn't a fan of was the portion. They were tiny! I ordered two rolls - BB Roll and soft spicy salmon and I wished I had ordered another roll or an appetizer. My husband who is not a sushi fan ordered the steak which came out as an already presliced thin sirloin on top of a bed of lightly steamed vegetables. Again, his portion was not enough food and we wished we had ordered an app to satiate ourselves. As it was busy and we didn't want to wait for another order, we left and went to the Wendy's near there... not great food but certainly filling! I gave it 3 stars because of the small portion for the price.

I have been here three times now, and the tempura has been first-rate, every single time. The rest of the food is good, but oh, lord, the tempura! Whoever is doing the tempura here, GOOD JOB, please don't ever change. I love it, I always get some tempura every single time I'm here. Bara has the best tempura in Denver. (Not the best shrimp tempura rolls, though. At Bara, tempura (not rolled) is FANTASTIC as a main dish.) I have had wonderful service here on weekdays. Weekends, not so much--not for lack of trying, but simply because they just can't keep up with how busy the place is. My husband and I were here on a Saturday the second time I was here, and it was PACKED. (I don't recommend coming here on Saturday, even with reservations. There are just too many poople.) On weekday nights the place is not noisy, the kitchen can definitely keep pace with your meal, and the staff have time/energy to devote their attention to you and be sensitive. I love Bara. It's definitely on my list of restaurants where I know I'll have a good meal and enjoy myself... but only on weekdays.

We had a groupon for Bara and went last night for dinner. We had such horrible service, that we left and I plan to return my groupon. We had been there for an hour, 45 minutes since we ordered food, and we did not have one item on out table to eat. With our three small kids (5, 3 &1) you can imagine how grumpy the children were. Don't go here.

The wife and I came here for lunch and had a good time. The food was good and the atmosphere was pleasant. The location is ideal and I could tell this place is pretty popular with the locals. I can't say it stood out for me but I will probably come back if I am out this way.

Bara Sushi & Grill dearest, I think you break my heart into tiny pieces, it aches so much... Wednesday MAY 13th 2009 1830hrs Our monthly sushi meetup at Bara Sushi & Grill. About 11 friends and I came to Bara Sushi. The scheduled meetup is at 19:00hrs. We are considered the repeat customers and some of my friends are first time visiting Bara Sushi. I came early as usual. This time around, the place seems a little empty. Not as jammed packed as we were in like at least 1 year ago. Our table is ready for us. The same spot as the ones last year. Our main server is Maria. She is very attentive. So far our service was prompt. From what I found out, the Sushi Chefs are from Korea after having a little conversation with our main server, Maria. By the time its 19:15hrs, we sent our orders. About 19:35hrs, several of my friends received their Appetizers etc etc. For this time around I ordered the following: * Green Mussels * Seafood Dynamite Nigiris : * Unagi * Ama Ebi * Real Crab * Hokigai * Tamago * Tobiko * Uni * Striped Bass Roll Sushi : * Spicy Scallop Roll Beverage : * Green Tea The sushi was OK. The ones that stood out for me were the Green Mussels and Seafood Dynamite. For that alone I give them 3.5 stars. The rest of my friends like what they ordered for that evening. Some said their sushi is GOOD. They give 3.5 to 4 stars. The service was good and they allow for separate checks. I end my evening with Mochi, Strawberry and Mango flavors. Something was not right in which I cant figure out until now. Oh well that is why I feel Bara Sushi & Grill you broke my heart. So therefore, I have to reduce my grade rating for Bara Sushi & Grill to 4 stars.

I have been going to Bara for years now, and always have had a positive experience. I really enjoy their unagi, monkey brains(not actual brains) and various rolls. This is the best place in the DTC area for sushi, I would suggest it for sushi lovers

Bara has become my favorite place for sushi. Their special rolls are fantastic, creative and decadent. My friend and I shared the Red Dragon and Crouching Tiger. I highly recommend both. We shared the Monkey Brains as an appetizer and it was equally delicious. Their sushi chefs are highly skilled and present the food beautifully. The service is wonderful--always friendly and welcoming.

New Owner DOES NOT ACCEPT GROUPONS. We went in twice trying to use the Groupon we purchased and they wouldn't accept it because it was from the previous owner? Bad Choice... The Sushi kinda sucked too. Not worth the money at full price. We'll never go back here again.

We only ordered of the Happy Hour menu. Their hh goes until 6pm and I had to ask for the hh menu when I arrived at 5:30. I was then somewhat rudely asked if I had a Groupon, to which I replied no. The attitude improved after that. We ordered 3 rolls, some nigiri and an order of monkey brain return (I think they brought the regular monkey brain, instead). As far as hh menus go, there are a lot of food options offered on their menu compared to some other places. FYI - the prices on their online menu are slightly different from the actual menu prices. Overall, everything was just ok. I've had much better sushi in this area for around the same price. The service was also ok - nothing dreadful like some of the other reviews mention, but nothing to write home about, either.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch the other day. Good sushi lunch for an affordable price. They have a Lunch Box with your choice of fish, a side, and 4 pieces of a sushi roll, or a Sushi lunch with a roll and some nigiri. Both of those come with miso soup and a salad as well. And to top it all off, both are under $10. The atmosphere is trendy and everything is very clean and neat. The employees were all friendly and seemed to know the regulars. As for the sushi, it's pretty good. I won't say it's my favorite sushi place in Denver, but I might give it my favorite lunch spot for sushi. I'll know for sure after a few more visits.

We came because of a Groupon and were rather disappointed in the service. The sushi was fine, but nothing to recommend. It took a long time to get our food and the waiter had to apologize several times---we missed our movie too! I don't think this place is well-run because none of the employees looked happy, especially they guys making sushi. My guess is their having money issues because they didn't have enough people making sushi, and none of the usual "standard" restaurant things that cost a restaurant extra---i.e. mints, hot hand towels, music, decent menu covers, a hostess, some of the sushi plates didn't have wasabi, which we ran out of of, etc. For the cost, I'd go elsewhere as there's a lot of sushi restaurants in the area.

Monkey brains. Bara is a great addition to the group (of mixed greatness) of restaurants in this area. The folks are friendly, the fish is fresh, and the food is good. I've enjoyed several variations of their Bento Box as well as traditional sashimi (recently enjoyed the yellowtail, tuna and salmon, which is a nice deal - 4 pieces of each for $16 total, including miso, salad and rice). You can get better gyoza, though they are passible, and I enjoy their tempura. They also have a group of interesting rolls (I think they shut down your restaurant if you don't 'invent' some of these) and I've enjoyed them, though they are, in my opinion, pretty 'easy'. Many are sweet. Their green tea is ok; admittedly Japanese-style green is not my favorite. [if you've read this far and don't know what Monkey Brains are, go and order them and do remember that I suggested it] The miso is very nice - hard to think of a better way to start a meal. I've also enjoyed both of their salad dressings (ginger and sesame). I find Bara welcoming and recommend it. Monkey brains.

I have hit up this spot on multiple occasions for what is one of the better tasting and better priced Bento Box's in the city. If you're not in the mood for a Bento Box, there is a large variety of other Japanese cuisine available. Great spot for lunch...

This Cali guy wondered about how fresh sushi could be in Denver ... but Bara's was pretty darn good. Service was at a snail's pace and overly confused by a relatively straightforward and simple order. Nearly every request seemed to send her into a tailspin. "More water, please?" lead to a look of horrified confusion. What the ...? Randomly, some other Bara worker bee came by and apologized for so many lightbulbs being burnt out. Hadn't even noticed ... but now that you mention it, yeah, surely you can buy some replacement bulbs for this place. Oh, and if we're just talking sushi here, the spicy tuna roll was fantab!

I was staying at the Marriott couple of blocks away and as a sushi lover promptly found a nearby place to go to. It was my last night there during this particular trip a couple of weeks ago so I figured a mani/pedi, sushi, and a spray tan would be the way to go. Thankfully, I was able to find all three within minutes of each other. The restaurant is fairly nice, mix of booths and tables. I went on a Thursday night and most of the tables were filled. I believe there were a couple of servers and the one waiting on me was training. She didn't know much about the menu yet but I didn't care. Came to grab some grub and a drink so whatever, relaxing either way. I ordered the green mussels, a sashimi canape, and a roll but I can't remember which one. It had three types of fish in it. The mussels were pretty tasty, I will definitely get those when I go back next time. The sashimi canape was awesome! So simple but it was delicious and looked great. Definitely a must have. The roll was eh, not a lot of fish compared to other restaurants. It was just okay. I also had a couple sake martinis, of course. They were good, strong and cold, just how I like it. Overall, I liked it and will most likely go back if in the area. There were just a couple of things that irked me about this place: - they do not have sashimi a la carte (well, they kind of do but only maybe 4 kinds of fish) that is how I ended up with the sashimi canape, which was great but wanted more sashimi choices - my martini had olives in it, ok, but they were pierced with a coffee stirrer, the tiny straw that has red lines on it...huh? really? it just looked so odd, no, no, no.

Enjoyed this place a couple times! This past time was take out. They did an amazing job on the presentation, and sorting things so my friend that is allergic to shell fish didn't die! (that's a good thing) We had a little trouble with a coupon we had. But they eventually sucked it up and since it was a 150 dollar order, let us use it! (they had agreed on the phone, but re-negged when we walked in) The fish is fresh, the options are amazing! Rolls we had this last time Moonlight - OMG - WOW!!! I could live on this thing! Blue Sky - ok, kinds fishy, i'd pass next time 8000 - not bad - more cream cheese than i prefer, but tasty Centennial - WOW!!! Great great great! Triply II - the cooked fish really didn't do much for this one - i'd skip it next time Shrimp Tempura Roll - mmmm! Eel and Shrimp Tempura Roll - again, mmm! Spicy tuna was pretty good - i'd rather have the moon light or centenial! Unagi was ok- but since it was take out they didn't cook it up - so it was cold.. :( Inari - tofu pockets - yummy! I had a full belly and was very very happy!!! It's far to travel but when we head south to see our friends in Castle Rock this is definitely some place we don't mind getting take out from on the way!

Went there last night using a $30 Groupon. The dinner combo with Chilean Seabass was just okay. But the sushi rolls were very delicious. We ordered a special Spicy Tuna which was deep fried with jalapeno sauce and it was just soooo yummy. The restaurant was very busy and the food came slow. The waiter offered us a free desert because of the long wait. We got red bean ice cream and it was very yummy, too.

Food is average. I had a Groupon and as soon as I let them know about it they treated us like crap. The table behind us ordered 10 minutes after we did, and our food arrived 10 minutes after theirs. Plus there was two rolls missing, which arrived 15 mintues after that. We'll never go back.

We were in the DTC vicinity seeing the GF's mom and decided to try Sushi Barra. The inside is fancy, low lights, kinda romantic... perfect. We order a glass of wine and start going over the menu, that's when things start to go downhill. When you have sushi rolls that include olive oil, cherry tomatoes, and potato crunch you know your getting in over your head. Mabye its because I'm a spoiled Californian and good sushi was always easy to find but in Denver not so much. We went the safe route, Philly roll, California roll, I ventured out and tried this Blue Angel Roll, and smelt egg sushi. I have to say the only edible thing we ordered was the California roll, which is a sad sushi day in my book. We ended up spending about $60.00 for bad sushi. On a side note the service here, while always with a smile was Slooooowwwww! The sushi took about 40 minutes to make, 15 minutes to eat, or not eat in our case and about 20 minutes to get the table cleared and ask for the check.

this place was terrible. The service and the food was very fishy. I wonder if they really know what good sushi taste like. Cook had a cold and was touching nose and food. Not very sanitary in my opinion. Very slow service. Avoid at all cost. There's better sushi in Denver.

Looking for a laid back, reliable, great sushi place? Visit Bara! I really enjoyed Bara's nice, intimate atmosphere, which didn't consist of the bourgie waitstaff that's easy to find at many other sushi places. I've had sushi all over Denver.. and even the yuppie Sushi Den served me some disappointing stuff. I'm sorry, I just want my food, and I want it good. Bara does it for me. Tips: Trust your server to let you know what rolls are worthwhile. Favorites: green mussels appetizer jalapeno yellowtail soft-shell crab roll (I wish I remembered the name!)

This is my FAVORITE lunchtime spot in the Tech Center. For 10 bucks you get a bento box full of goodies. You even have choices!!!! My favorite bento box combinations include the chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki or the sea bass, the shrimp and veggie tempura and the california or tuna rolls. Don't like any of those? have no fear... the possibilities are endless --- sashimi, gyoza. You also get soup, salad and rice/noodles. Seriously, it's $10. I love this place.

HORRIBLE service. We walked in only to join the crowd of the huge group of people waiting for a table. The staff had no idea what was going on. They didn't ask us for our names, we had to approach them. We waited for over thirty minutes and then we were sat at our table. My boyfriend's food came out after about 40 minutes, mine (vegetarian rolls) took over an hour. Mind you, they only bought one of my rolls and then brought over the poorly made avocado roll. New Style Vegetarian Roll was good, but the poor service overshadowed the food. I will not return anytime soon. If you walk in and it is packed, turn around and walk out. You do not want to waste your time.

So being from the northwest (Seattle) I had high hopes that I would find good sushi here in Colorado like back home. I've tried sushi at MULTIPLE spots including: Hapa, Sushi Den, Japon, Mikuni's and plenty more. Some were better than others but when I ate at Bara I knew I was in luck. Their sushi is very delicious to say the least and they have a wide variety of things to choose from. My personal favorite is anything that includes salmon so the first thing I wanted to try was just the salmon nigiri. It was fresh, the rice also tasted very good, the pieces stuck together very well (bad sushi always falls apart) and best of all, they made the pieces big! A few different things I tried included: Salmon Nigiri (Rice was made perfect and salmon tasted extremely fresh!) The New Style Salmon Roll *Extremely good* Green muscles (with the spicy mayo sauce) *Unique and very tastey* Starlight Roll (Cream cheese and salmon deep fried and baked with mayo sauce) *Favorite!* Not only does a restaurant obviously have to have good food, but good service as well. Being in retail I completely understand the importance of customer service and satisfaction. My waiter was a young man, I believe his name was Johnny. Great guy! He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. I would definitely recommend asking for him if you ever get a chance to eat here. After having such an amazing OVERALL experience at Bara I can definitely say I will be a new found regular there. Took me long enough to find a place to eat good sushi and truly enjoy myself! Definitely was worth the wait!

Just got back from this place. We've eaten there before and it was fairly decent, but tonight is a textbook definition of terrible service and a poor experience. 3 tables full in the entire restaurant. We were the first ones there and the last ones served (we had no appetizers). It took nearly 45 minutes to receive our order. There were 2 of us. This is raw fish. Portions were minuscule and the Saki arrived half-full when it got to our table. This will be the LAST time we ever eat there. *TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE*

I've never actually gotten up and walked out of a restaurant before. We waited in total 1.5 hours and all we had to show for it was a Diet Coke. First we waited ~40 min in the lobby where we (and the other patrons) had to keep track of who was next because nobody else was! We were then seated, and our attempts to flag down a member of the wait staff did eventually result in the Coke and after a while, we even placed an order for sushi...which we learned (much) later was apparently lost or taken to another table? Either way, we finally felt like we needed to leave. Having worked as both a waitress and hostess myself, I have full sympathy for employees at a restaurant that is totally in the weeds on a busy night. I will work with the poor souls in this position to no end and endure whatever service/food/incident comes my way because hey, we've all had those impossible shifts! And i'd still happily hand over my 20% tip. We've all been there! But i didn't feel that wasn't the problem here. Bara just doesn't care.

Open for lunch. Open for dinner. Closed in-between lunch & dinner. Just FYI. BEST ITEMS: Sunlight Roll - crab, eel, and avocado with 2 color flying fish eggs! Blue Sky Roll - spicy crab, flying fish eggs, tempura flakes! (I haven't yet found a sushi joint that offers rolls as creative & palette harmonious as these.) Edamame - warm, plump, and salty!

Like another reviewer I got a groupon for this place & decided to check it out with my husband. Went on a Saturday night around 6:30 and it wasn't even busy, we sat at the sushi bar and waited twenty mintues before we got waters and another twenty five minutes before we were even asked what we wanted to order- ridiculous! Then once we ordered our food came out pretty fast and it was very good. However I paid twelve dollars for six tiny rolls! Are you kidding me? They were literally a third of what a regular sushi place's rolls should be. Even my hubby commented on how tiny they were. Then to top off the "amazing service" we had already received it took about twenty more minutes to get our check. So 75 dollars later for two people we were both still hungry and left with a bad taste in our mouth due to the service and the portions. If I'm paying that much money for sushi it better be damn good rolls and service, instead we were left with terrible service and rolls that I think might fill up a polly pocket. Won't be going there again.

We had a great experience at Bara sushi. Food was very good. Sushi is one of the freshest I tasted in Colorado. The staff were also very nice.

3.5 stars...I had to wait about 15 minutes for a spot and then another 15 before my order was taken so I wouldn't go if you are in a hurry. The staff and sushi chefs were very friendly. I liked the sunlight roll and this other roll I had that contained mango, shrimp tempura, and had some sweet potato flakes and unagi on top, but I could have done without the Bara Roll...the bacon was too fatty. My rolls were given to me one at a time, which I kind of liked as opposed to waiting longer to receive all of them - I was HUNGRY :) Parking can get crazy because even though there is a huge lot, there are a bunch of other restaurants, stores, etc. in the area. I am not usually in the area, but I would consider coming back.

This place was just awful, if we didn't have a groupon we would have gotten up and left... which, by the way, is what the couple next to us decided to do. Smart choice. They were so incredibly slow and the waitresses were rude. The sushi itself wasn't that bad but you definitely got what you paid for, i.e. 5 small pieces of sushi for $6. I don't have a very large stomach but I had to order two rolls and eat edamame (which was VERY bland) to get full... As I write this, my boyfriend is eating a McDonalds sandwich which we had to stop off at on the way home because he was still hungry. There are better places out there, don't bother with this one.

One of the best bento boxes around, and a real treat for the money. Great sushi, recommend it highly.

Let me preface this by saying that this place would get 0 stars if it were (a) possible and (b) based only on service. I bought a groupon the other night and my boyfriend and I were excited to try out a new sushi place. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. It was packed! So, I could understand why the staff seemed a little frazzled... but not one person ever greeted us. After standing in a crowd for a few minutes, we approached the hostess and asked if we could sit down at the sushi bar instead of waiting for a table. She shrugged and pointed toward the bar. We took a seat and then proceeded to wait for almost 45 minutes to get menus, water and plates. All the while, other parties sat down at the bar around us and were being served. I mean, the people next to us sat down 10 minutes after us and had an appetizer before we'd even been asked if we WANTED water. It was surreal...we were trying to figure out if we'd done something to piss off the entire staff. Anyway, we finally got a chance to order. We waited another 45 minutes or so to get our food (which I could hear from the guys making sushi behind the bar--our waitress never put our food order in. Great). When we did get our food, we were missing several different rolls. The food was actually delicious--good, fresh sushi...but the rolls are overpriced and TINY. We were still starving after our meal. Then of course, the staff lost our groupon and tried to charge us for the full meal price, but that was eventually sorted out. Let's just say that by the time the check was settled, we pretty much run out. It's a bummer because the food is really good, but this was honestly the slowest, rudest and most horrible service I've ever received. Sad day.

When here the other day to use my Groupon. The food was alright. I feel like the food wasn't freshly made for some reason. Didn't smell or anything. I totally thought the Super Spider Man was going to be awesome but it felt soggy, the flavor was good but it just felt it like was rolled and sat out for awhile. With our Groupon ($15 off), came to about reasonable price but without it would have been really over priced. Probably wouldn't go back again but if someone wants to go there, I wouldn't totally vote against it. Just meah.

I went to Bara last night for the first time, and I was skeptical after reading reviews here on yelp. Fortunately, though, we had a great experience. The service was a little slow, but they were very nice. The sushi was fantastic - the unagi was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the special roll, the new volcano roll (california roll topped with dynamite mix) was fantastic. I'd give it 5 stars, but even with our Groupon it was a pretty expensive meal.

I ate at Bara Sushi today and, as always, had an excellent experience. It's another GREAT tech center lunch spot, with $10.00 bento boxes and other fresh sushi. They have an excellent selection and the food is always spot on. The portions are smaller, but it's very satisfying. I especially enjoy the wide range of choices for the bento boxes - I get to try a lot of different items and experiment a bit. The options make it a very good choice for people who are less comfortable with Japanese food. Try the monkey brains!!

Just.. Wow. I'm not sure I can convey the awesomeness of my experience here this evening. Upon walking in, I was immediately greeted by Danny, one of the sushi chefs behind the bar. After stating I was alone, he offered me a seat at the bar, "where all the action is". I had a seat, was presented with a menu, and immediately spotted something I knew I wanted to try: crispy guacamole tuna, one of their starters. Two of their special rolls caught my eye as well, so I went for them as well: the super spider roll, and the big lebowski. I settled on a large Asahi to drink. The crispy guacamole tuna definitely stole the show. It was just.. Unbelievable. The two rolls followed quickly afterward, and both were unique creations that I enjoyed (but they didn't come close to topping the starter). For dessert, I tried moshi in two flavors, chocolate and green tea (although I could swear I ordered mango). The chocolate was great, and even though I'm not a fan of green tea, it tasted pretty good as well. The staff was extremely friendly and responsive, keeping my water glass full and checking to make sure things were perfect. Considering I walked in shortly before they closed, they never once treated me with anything but the utmost courtesy. It's unfortunate that I won't be in town long enough to enjoy this place over and over again. If I'm ever back this way again, I'll definitely be paying them a return visit. Oh, and sushi joints in St. Louis? Bara is proof that you don't have to be on the West Coast to have excellent sushi AND excellent service. I expect improvements when I get home!

Bara sushi was definitely not a disappointment. I wasn't sure what to order but the friendly waitstaff provided some VERY GOOD suggestions- if you are in the same position, asking for assistance to navigate the menu is worthwhile. I like having a solid sushi place in the neighborhood. Good quality fish, excellent tasting rolls, and a nice atmosphere. If you are looking for a nice place to eat alone, on a date, or with a group, I'd choose Bara over any of the over-crowded, over-priced sushi restaurants nearby..

I went to this place couple years ago when I was at a business trip. It was a good place to have sushi. I went back yesterday for lunch; the good experiences were gone! The sushi was fine but had very few fish inside. More important the service was bad- mostly inexperienced servers. I hope the dinner will be better but I had to catch the flight night. May not come back next time.

Bara sushi is one of my favorites. They advertise their special fish on the chalkboard above the chefs / sushi bar so don't miss those options. They've had the best bincho lately. I love their new style sashimi and spicy salsa tataki, delicious! The 8000 roll is the best, try it & it won't disappoint! They have great appetizers as well, Monkey Brain Returns, Lobster Tempura & Crispy Guacamole Tuna are all favorites. Yum .. now I want to go eat there tonight after writing this review!

I eat sushi A LOT. That being said, I was pretty disappointed with the food here. While the sushi was very flavorful, it was too much. Almost every single order of sushi was jam packed with as much stuff as possible. Now that may sound like a good thing, but after a little while, all of the sushi tasted exactly the same. And with too many flavors that probably shouldn't be together. I think they simply just tried to do too much on every roll. On top of that, the rolls started falling apart. One way to tell if a sushi is good or not, is how well it stays together. if 90% of my rolls break apart before it even reaches my mouth, I have a problem with that. One roll was even the size of 4 rolls combined. I had to eat it like a small bagel. But . . . surprise, that started falling apart as well.

Today I had lunch at Bara and it was terrible! I had been there before, about a year ago and it was pretty good, but they have the nerve to raise the prices considerably and give you less food! On top of that the California roll had a strange taste, the salad was wilted with brown edges, the veggie tempura had a weird oily flavor. I paid $12 for the lunch box and couldn't even eat most of it. I don't know what they have changed in the kitchen but I would HIGHLY recommend that you STAY AWAY from this place!

This place was recommended to me by a friend who said the happy hour was great, so I went for dinner with a girlfriend one night. I didn't quite know what to make of the ambiance. There was a lady next to us, studying. There was a table with a couple on a date. There was a family seated in one of the booths. And finally there was a large, rowdy group, doing sake bombs at the edge of the restaurant. But I guess in the DTC area the crowds will likely be all over the place. We ordered a combo platter, and a couple of rolls, and that was enough for the both of us. The sushi was so-so. It was nicely cut, and rolled very well..., but it wasn't the best I've ever had. The beef in the combo platter was overly seasoned and the sauce was too salty. I will likely go back for happy hour, but for a full priced meal, you're better off spending your money elsewhere for sushi.

Totally solid choice for sushi lunch in DTC. I'd reccomend the lunch box - you pick 3 items and get salad, rice and miso soup for $9.50. Fantastic deal with great food. Also nice and quick, very clean, pretty décor and no fish smell at all. I'll go back again, probably sooner than later!

Bara is pretty much awesome. I've eaten there since they opened in 2003 and I absolutely love it. It's as good as Sushi Den without all the faux hipsters and pretentiousness.

Ok, so it has been a few years since I've been here but I have two distinct memories of this place: 1.) Trying to keep up with a few Denver Broncos who were there late one night putting away the raw fish. 2.) Amazing sushi for a place far from the sea, including a 1/2 an avocado, filled with spicy tuna, tempura battered and then deep fried.

I MADE A MISTAKE by not reading the reviews before purchasing the Groupon. We LOVE sushi, but this place is abysmal. I counted 5 tables open when we arrived but were told we'd have to wait 20 minutes. That was just the beginning of the meal of endurance. After being seated, we waited an eternity for a server to get to our table, and again, they were not that busy. That should have been our second clue of disappointment. Finally our server showed up and took our order. Seriously, it took over thirty minutes to get our food. It took so long that our server came to our table and apologized. She said the food was coming out in a minute. Ten minutes later she brought us soup. We were in position to see the food being prepared and tried to identify our plates. At one time, our server was in the back of the restaurant letting our food sit before checking to deliver it. All in all, the food was just average, but the service put a terrible taste in our mouths. I would NEVER suggest Boring Sushi to ANYONE. As a matter of fact, I will spread negative comments about this place. It had no ambience, terrible service and no personality. Miserable.

Well, the roll offerings were pretty interesting, some cool new things on their menu. Service was nice, cute ambience (nice and understated in a very upscale shopping center), and quality of the fish was good. However, everything was just sort of ordinary - nothing really left much of an impression on me. To be honest, i told my wife i'd prefer we just went to samurai, which is like 2 miles south, rather than return. it wasn't a bad experience, but where there's someplace close and better, you generally go there instead.

Been here for lunch twice in the past week. High quality food, incredible staff! Had the same server both times and she remembered what we ordered the first time and asked if we wanted some of the same rolls. Some creative dishes that are incredible. A little pricey, but worth it.

Best lunch value sushi for $10 I've had so far in Denver, period. Abundant sushi with a great checklist of items from A, B, and C categories. My A, B, and C were succulent scallops perfectly tender, tuna sashimi, and spicy tuna rolls respectively. In addition to those items, you can select brown or white rice, and both salad and miso soup. Fast, friendly service for those of you on a 1-hour-including-travel-time lunch break. The decor is comfortable, earthy, modern, and overall very crisp and clean. Not sure about dinner, but a fantastic lunch experience! It's no Domo, but neither are the prices...I can't wait to go back!

I will say that the sushi is really good here. It tastes really fresh and is put together well. The service was just so-so. My dining companions had to wait a pretty long time for refills on their water and we were brought out the wrong soups etc. The only reason this troubles me is because many sushi restaurants are known for having awesome service, where all the servers work as a team, these chicks didn't seem to know what was going on. Their food seemed a little pricey too. It was a good lunch but overall I think I will seek out another sushi restaurant next time.

Eh. Expensive for so-so sushi that certainly wasn't all that fresh and mediocre service that took FOREVER. I'd rather pack my lunch and save up for the Sushi Den!

Got the worst food poisoning ever!!! Both my wife and I ate lunch at Bara and then I left town on a business trip. (I know it was not the smartest thing to eat sushi and get on a plane but I won't make that mistake ever again.) By that night we were both so sick...We had the lunch boxes with sushi and I have never been that sick from from food before. Bara didn't seem to care when called and only tried to say we could have eaten something bad somewhere else. - nice

Bara is my favorite sushi restaurant in Denver. We always celebrate special occasions at Bara. The sushi is fresh and the staff is wonderful. They recognize repeat customers and are always grateful for the business. The $10 lunch box is a smoki' deal!

I've been here many times. It's expensive and the food is just okay - but when you need a sushi fix during your lunch hour, it will do. Nothing spectacular. I actually got a mild case of "oh, I don't feel well," once after eating here - don't recall what I ordered though. I always go early because parking in that area is a pain in the ass around noon.

Honestly I felt a little gouged when we left, My wife and I have tried this place twice and both times I was seriously wondering what the hell I just paid $80 for?? Maybe that's why the Lodo location went under, aside from the high rent but I digress, Honestly try Sushi Wave down on arapahoe well worth the extra 7 minute drive, but if you want the best try Japango's in Boulder on Pearl St.

  • Rich L.

Always happy to eat here cause it's never on my own dime! As long as the company is picking up the tab, I'm happy to oblige in a lunch meeting and enjoy some decent sushi. It's really nothing special and the service can be spotty, but the food is consistent and good quality. Try the maya roll on a hot summer day - mango and lobster meat topped with half a cherry tomato - very refreshing.
